If you're reading this, chances are very good that even though Gilmore Girls ended three years ago, you simply can't get the lives and loves of the people of Stars Hollow out of your mind. I'm the same way. You've probably heard people say that they wrote a particular book because it was the kind of book they wanted to read; in this case, that's exactly what happened. 
Throughout the show's seven-year run, I stalked Amazon and my local bookstores, always hoping that someone would publish a book about this, one of my favorite shows of all time. By 2008, a year after the last episode had aired, I realized that nobody was going to write one, which is when I approached my publisher about the prospect of writing one of my own. Thankfully, the head of BearManor Media is one of those souls who realizes just how important some television shows can be to people. After nearly three years, 480 pages, and more than 40 interviews with the cast and crew of Gilmore Girls, I've come to appreciate just how unique this series, and the people who worked so tirelessly behind it, really are. My hope is that after reading it, you will too. 

About the Author
A.S. Berman is a longtime Gilmore Girls fan, and author of The New Horror Handbook and 30 Years of British Television. He and his wife (and Gilmore Girls Companion art director) Pamela share a house with a cat named after Max Medina, though CatKirk now seems more suitable. (Max, no!) Berman is currently working on Soap! The Inside Story of the Sitcom that Broke All the Rules.

A treasure trove of details

Bottom line is that big fans of the show will absolutely love this book. Even moderate fans of the show should appreciate the beginning of the book (a forward by Edward Hermann - Richard Gilmore - and the backstory of how the show came into being) and the After Gilmore chapter (which summarizes the subsequent three years for all of the key people). Big fans of the series will go gaga over the amazing amount of detail that forms the bulk of the book.

For each episode, there is:
* a synopsis
* Ginchy!, a collection of particularly heart-warming moments
* Notes
* Amen, sister friend! (memorable dialogs)

There are also amusing sections where appropriate such as:
* Kirk-of-all-trades
* You've entered Emilyland
* Emily's maid du jour
* Today's celebration

In addition to all that, there are extensive behind the scenes notes, biographical information on many of the actors and production people, and more. Besides being fun to read, it helped reinforce the dedication to quality that everyone had. When you watch the show, the attention to detail is quite evident, but the book gives the details that describe what it was really like.

While the book would have been better if the principles (Amy Sherman-Palladino, Lauren Graham, and Alexis Bledel) would have been interviewed, the reality is that it wasn't going to happen.

Kudos to the author for going through the enormous effort required to get all of this information together in one place.

Great read

I was waiting for someone to review this book before I bought it just to be sure it was a good read.But since no one did, I HAD to have it. I really enjoyed this book and it made me go back and rewatch many episodes to see some of the details that the author pointed out. At times I could not put this book down even if it was majority a book about the episodes. I would have loved to have more of the main characters interviewed but overall, this was a GREAT book that puts the show in a different light for me. I respect the author's opinion and enjoyed some of the backround details of the show.

A must for fans!

If anyone is considering it, but not sure if it's worth it: it totally is. There are just so many behind-the-scenes tidbits about everyone and everything. Edward Hermann apparently took Alexis under his wing at the beginning of the series and watched out of her: her would tell the producers, etc., when she was being burnt out (she, a novice and shy, wasn't comfortable speaking up for that). If you watch the early episodes and notice how much Lorelai puts her arm around Rory, it's Lauren guiding Alexis to her mark. Kelly Bishop risked jinxing herself by telling the people at the audition what a great script it was. Keiko kept sneakers and a sweater from her Lane wardrobe; Todd Lowe swiped some Hep Alien swag. This book is a must-have for anyone that is or ever was a GG fan.

Lamott's ( Operating Instructions ) miscellany of guidance and reflection should appeal to writers struggling with demons large and slight. Among the pearls she offers is to start small, as their father once advised her 10-year-old brother, who was agonizing over a book report on birds: "Just take it bird by bird." Lamott's suggestion on the craft of fiction is down-to-earth: worry about the characters, not the plot. But she's even better on psychological questions. She has learned that writing is more rewarding than publication, but that even writing's rewards may not lead to contentment. As a former "Leona Helmsley of jealousy," she's come to will herself past pettiness and to fight writer's block by living "as if I am dying." She counsels writers to form support groups and wisely observes that, even if your audience is small, "to have written your version is an honorable thing."

Lamott (Operating Instructions, LJ 3/15/93) makes her living by selling magazine articles and books. She also teaches writing. Reading this work is like sitting in on one of her workshops. While discussing elements of the craft such as character development, plot invention, and rewriting, she presents much more than an instruction manual in this small text. Writing is by nature a personal and solitary trade, and Lamott offers thorough examples and anecdotes that explain how she copes with self-doubt, writer's block, professional jealousy, and the discipline necessary to turn thoughts into words on a page. Her work is an honest appraisal of what it takes to be a writer and why it matters so much. Collections supporting creative writing will want to include this because it offers unique inspiration to would-be and struggling authors.

Lamott is sarcastic and angry, difficult to learn from

I read Bird by Bird and found it depressing. I am not a naturally sarcastic or angry person but Ms. Lamott seems to be and I couldn't get into it. I know other reviewers think she is hilarious but I though she was mostly rude and unkind. If you enjoy a mocking kind of humor, maybe her messages on writing will get through better than what other's have published but, for me, I didn't get her. I did like one or two things she said (like her comment about why she has a 1 inch picture frame on her desk: to remind her to just write this scene or that dialogue or that little bit of character description, bit by bit, bird by bird. That helps her keep writing. This is pretty much the same advice on how to eat an elephant) and the story about her 3 year old son and his keys was funny.

I didn't read anything that Stephen King didn't say better, more clearly and more usefully in On Writing. When I read On Writing, I met a man who, in spite of all his failings as a human being, I liked and respected him when I finished reading. His book also helps with teaching writers the joy of and need for a good editor. He also gives some reasoned advice on how to get published whereas Ms. Lamott is kind of cruel towards her students who might have wanted to see themselves published. She is not an encourager whereas King is. I "met" Anne Lamott in the Bird book and, unfortunately, I only felt sorry for her and was ready to leave her company quickly. i did finish reading but barely.

Absolute must read! An author at any stage in their career WILL benefit from this!

I've listened to this book, (Audiobook) more than a dozen times. Her writing style keeps me interested, along with her topics. She brings personal stories into her book, and combines them with hints, suggestions and instructions to either start, better or further your career. She does this through personal stories. It’s clear from her book that becoming a successful author is difficult and time consuming. A person will have many rejections and not everyone will make it as an author. She often writes as if she were talking to a friend, which adds comedy to the book.

This book alone has made Anne Lamott one of my top three favorite authors. This was the first writing book I purchased. I took quite a bit from Bird by Bird and incorporated it into my books. This is the book I hold all other writing books to. Given her talent, it is impossible to compare any other books to hers.

It's a decent book. I was just looking for a product to give more details about how to teach students to write compelling essays for college. I needed more concrete activities and guidance. This book didn't provide that, but it was a decent read.

1 Star (I hate it!) : The lowest score possible. Definitely not worth the money and time and effort! should only use this when the product really does not reflect the product listing. If there are any positives at all to the product or its use, you should not give it 1 star.
2 Stars (I don't like it.): The product is not exactly as described, either appearance-wise or functionally. The product may still be usable but it’s very different to what was described. The product may have a few faults. I'm not a fan of this item as it is no where close to my expectations and I won't order it again, but I can imagine a few others might find it functional as it has at least one positive quality.
3 Stars (It's okay): This item has both positive and negative qualities. I can definitely see some people loving or liking it as it may work for them, but I would likely not purchase in future. While you might think a 3-star score equates to average, 3 stars counts against the product as a negative score. So if you’re not meaning to give it a negative score, rethink your 3-star rating!
4 Stars (I like it): The product is as described and functions well. There may be a few minor issues, but all in all, the product is solid. This item arrived and functions as advertised. I would change a few things about this, but is a good product overall. I would use this item.

About the Author
Although Drew Daywalt grew up in a haunted house, he now lives in a Southern California home, haunted by only his wife, two kids, and German Shepherd. A Hollywood screenwriter by trade, The Day the Crayons Quit was his first book for children. His favorite crayon is Black.

Oliver Jeffers (www.oliverjeffersworld.com) makes art and tells stories. Drew Daywalt Does It Again!

Drew Daywalt does it again! His latest book “The Day the Crayons Came Home” once more features Duncan and his very unusual, very verbose crayons. Humorous postcards, written by different, individual colors of crayon, will have you laughing aloud at their complaints, misadventures, and revelations. (Be sure to note the postcard’s description – when shown.) Since they are traveling a long distance to reach home or need assistance to leave, several of the crayons do send multiple postcards. With the exception of yellow and orange crayons, the colors in this book are different from those in the previous “The Day the Crayons Quit”. The humor in the postcard’s written text may be gentle, snarky, or it may be making a point about the featured crayon’s feelings. Every postcard is funny and fun to read.

Oliver Jeffers’ illustrations – childlike crayon drawings and lettering – add significantly to the book’s appeal and highlight the dilemmas faced by each color. Younger readers may find the child-like lettering a bit difficult to decipher. On the other hand, they may be able to assist adult readers who are having difficulty reading the childlike printing.

One of my favorite things about Drew Daywalt’s two books is that the crayons reflect both readers’ and listeners’ emotions. Duncan’s crayons do have very human feelings and reactions to the events in their lives. Those in “The Day the Crayons Quit” are more representative of adults and their workplace attitudes. In “The Day the Crayons Came Home”, the crayons express feelings that are more familiar to children – feeling forgotten, disliking their own name and wanting to change it, needing help to run away from home.

“The Day the Crayons Quit” is one of my grandson’s favorite bedtime books. I am sure that “The Day the Crayons Came Home” will be, too. It is a fun-filled, funny book. It will engage and entertain both young readers and adults. I recommend you add this wonderful, imaginative book to your library.

Ohhh, such a good book in so many ways :)

Anyone who has read “The day the crayons quit” should definitely read “The day the crayons came home,” to their children (grandchildren, friends, and family). Mine were looking forward for the book to arrive on the mail as it did yesterday. Parts of the story from the crayons is a continuation of the first book. My son was a bit sad as he realized how the crayons felt when being neglected by Duncan, as he does the same sometimes.
I got to admit the pages where the “glow in the dark” crayon is super cool. We will continue to read this book and will definitely add more to my review. As a mom this book wins in so many ways, creativity, pictures, story, and truthfulness. I mean how many of us end up sitting, crushing, braking, or simply throwing a crayon away. We might think a bit differently from now on.... Love, love, absolutely love it.

The sequel to The Day the Crayons quit is just as whimsical and imaginative as the original. From the postcard adventures of all Duncan's crayons, to the end where he builds them a special home, you smile through every page and reading every word. This book is for any age and a perfect gift or bedtime read.

These were considered important inclusions as the North American companies are large investors in the European market, whilst the European companies invest in the South American market. The final chapter is a comparison and summary of the national patterns of market structures, business strategies and regulatory styles with a brief look at some challenges to be faced in future.

About the Author
Atle Midttun is Professor at the Norwegian School of Management and Co-director of its Centre for Energy and the Environment. He holds a PhD from Uppsala University (Sweden) and a Magister Artium from the University of Oslo (Norway). His research focuses on energy and Environmental Policy issues, especially their regulatory and industrial organisation aspects. He has been the editor of a number of books, including Approaches and Dilemmas of Economic Regulation (forthcoming), European Electricity Systems in Transition (published by Elsevier Science) and The Politics of Energy Forecasting. He is also the author of an extensive collection of journal articles on these topics.

Chapters (02) Nordic Business Strategies; (03)Corporate Strategies in British Electricity; (06)French Power Systems; and (08)Power Co. in Brazil are very interesting and well written. I strongly recommend not only this book but also the Elsevier Series.

Vascular System And Viscera Poster

These Anatomy posters are great. I have 5 now for my class and they are very large 20 x26 and show in great detail the workings of that system. They are a thick paper type and not laminated so be careful. I have had all my posters come damaged in they shipping. Why does Amazon not put this type item in a shipping tube vs a gigantic box? Stupid.

Bad packing ruined an otherwise excellent product

these are beautiful posters, but the person who shipped the posters ruined it. The product came in a square box, rather than a cylinder like other posters that I've ordered, it was loosely folded into the box with another poster I had ordered. The result was that the poster had some bends on the edges and top area. I'm using this in a professional office, now I'll have to place it in a area where the light doesn't show the wrinkles too much. What a waste of a great product to be ruined by someone who didn't take the care to send it properly---I really they had sent it in poster cylinders instead. It makes me a little wary of ordering from this company again.

Love it!

I already owned the same book, but the Basic English one. I have used it so much, that decided to try this one. So now I use both, one which focuses more on grammar and vocabulary and this one (English Conversation) that focuses on day to day pertinent situations. It has many great exercises and thorough explanations for common American sayings. Although I agree that perhaps a student will never hear some them, I do focus on those that are quite common. Yes and the students enjoy them a lot or say, "oh so that's what that meant.

But what I love the most about this book is that every chapter has a dialogue. I literary own a library of I don't know how many teaching English books and I don't know why, most of them just bring a dialogue or two! Dialogues for me are essential for role playing, improving reading/pronunciation skills, etc. And in my case (English is not my first language), I have surprisingly learned a thing or two with these books. Highly recommend it, bought used and arrived like new!
